Had my boiler serviced under a BG service contract last week. I have a feeling the engineer was having a bad day as:

(1) He fell down our stairs and smashed the light switch (when he conveniently forgot to tell us about) and

(2) Left the fill tap open on our sealed central heating system. This eventually led to a compression fitting on the pump failing so I was faced with a cascade of water pouring through our newly plastered bedroom ceiling last night.

Add to this the fact that my wife is a week overdue with our first child and you can imagine it wasn't the best evening I've ever had!

Luckily I knew how to depressurise the system, so I avoided any further damage. In their defence BG did react very quickly and the bloke that fixed it last night was really good. Doesn't detract from the fact that I only finished decorating the room two weeks ago and now it's ruined.

Awaiting the visit from BG's customer liaison officer any minute....

.

I don't get it.....if you told me the pressure relief had opened fair enough, but how can even 3 bar of pressure cause a pump valve to fail??
