not able to specifically say what is wrong, but all the ones i've worked on it has been air pressure switch or pcb
 
Thanks kevin, What an idiot i am!!!!!!!!!!! it does help if you put the outer combustion chamber cover on to seal the boiler up. regards chrisey
 
I did see a Smegg hob with a pulsating flame.

The same model in the flat below did exactly the same on the same large burner.
