Urgh! Was replacing a double socket today and one of the tabs of the dry lining mounting box has lost its thread, so can't screw it back on.

The one that works seems to have a metal thread insert, I assume its fallen through the back of the other one.

Anyone have any ideas about what I can do? - without having to dig out the old box that is, which would be a real pain, as it would damage the surrounding plaster.

Any advise appreciated.

Cheers

If you can get another back box the same you may be able to swop the sliding part from the new one with that which was damaged without disturbing the plaster.

Turn the power off first.

Dry lining patress boxes vary. A plastic box might have retractable wings and can easily be replaced. I originally had metal ones with metal wings that spread when the socket was tightened. I could push those back enough to fold the wings back in.

Piccy?
