I need to replace some of the hinges on my windows as they have broken. They are side hung friction hinges and held in place by rivets. Firstly, how do I remove the existing hinges and could I secure the new ones using something other than rivets? If I need to use rivets what size rivets would I need to use.

You can remove the rivets with a 5mm drill. This will pop the head off, the bit left over will probably fall into the gap underneath.

The friction stay should have two slots and one hole to fix through. Use a 4mm pan head screw to fix the new hinges.

Cheers, I shall have to do them as one window is totally knackered
