What size rivets?

I am replacing some of the hinges on my windows and although pan head self tappers were supplied with them they are too small. I have tried to get some larger gauge ones and have, 5mm. Unfortunately some are not holding, so I will have to use rivets in some places. I am also replacing some handles which I will need to use rivets as the heads of the srews are protruding too much.

What size rivets do I need to use?

Without seeing it I don't know, I would've thought if you can use rivets then you should be able to use a thicker screw for the extra size hole?
Sounds like the screw holes has been overtighten in the first place.
