Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with neighbour noise through the party wall. I hear their doors shutting, tv, I hear them going up and down stairs, talking, the blender in their kitchen, cupboards opening and shutting etc, its driving me mad.

The party wall, which is solid, probably breeze block, has my staircase going up it and I was wondering if I covered this wall with green glue then stuck a layer acoustic plaster board on top would this help. I only have about 20mm of space to do this.

I'm an oap, on my own, with only the statè pension, so what ever I do I will have to do myself and it can't cost much. I'm not too bad at a bit of diy, does any know if the plasterboards are very heavy..

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Are you certain that there are no underfloor vents/holes through the party wall? We had some in a semi we once owned.

Hi Frank, thanks for your reply. As far as I'm aware there are no under floor holes or vents. The ground floor is solid, and the 1st floor is floorboards. Just thin walls I think.

TBH you would be wasting time, money and effort sticking plasterboard on to the party wall.
Apart from the fact that what you are proposing would have very little effect, the sound will find its way in through other routes, such as through the floors and flanking walls.
(Sorry to be a killjoy, just writing through experience).
