Wasn't sure where to put this so sorry if its not the rights place.

I am building a base and hood for an aluminium frame chameleon cage
I want it to look professional but do not have a massive budget.
I have attached the kind of look base and hood I'm after.

The cage gets spray by a fine mist 3 times a day so the material will have to cope with dampness.

I didn't know if there was any type of acrylic or plastic that you may be able to attach to a wooden frame?

Any ideas appreciated I want to avoid using plastic coated chipboard if I can!

Thanks
Darren

Polycarbonate sheet is probably the material of choice......not as brittle as acrylic, it can be fixed with stainless steel nuts and bolts, or silicone sealer.
Its clinically clean too, so you can wash bacteria away.

Is this stuff transparent though?
The base cabinet will house a pump which ideally needs to be sound proofed and little by the walls etc

Polycarbonate sheet is available in transparent, transluscent and opaque variations, cut to size from plastic suppliers. Popular thicknesses are 4 and 6mm - in your case I'd go for 6mm thick.
Site your pump in a block of polystyrene for sound insulation.

Is it only the base construction your'e doing or the entire cage? ...pinenot :)

Hi,

I have an alloy mesh enclosure already so I am just making the base cabinet and he hood for the heat lamp and lighting.
