Building a log cabin near fence

I realise planning laws state a 1 metre gap is needed near third party boundries (e.g. fence) for combustable structures (log cabin), but is there any way around this as I would like to build to the fence as close as possible without losing my land?

if its your boundary consult the neighbours and get them on side
build it on the boundary with overhang on your side with the fence returned[connected to]the building so the building is your fence for that section
