building blockwork garage - need advice on thickness of bloc

First time poster - just joined and have found some great advice on the site.
But so far having searched through about 50 pages I havn't been able to find the exact advice I need.

I am considering building a freestanding garage.
Intending to use 150mm dense blockwork rendered externally.
After checking out some info on this site I applied the rule of thumb for thickness = 1/16 th of height. (height of wall is 2.4 metres).

Do I need to build piers in the middle of the side walls? Is 150mm blockwork thick enough?

The garage is 6 x 5 meters.

You could use 100mm blocks with 215mm piers.

If I do use the 150 blocks (I have a supply of them anyway) do I still need the piers?
