We are going through building control converting part of a garage into a room.

The other part (external door access) contains the boiler and garage bits and pieces (approx 2.5m by 2.7m area)

walls between this area and the rest of the garage is seperated by stud frame (2 by 4s) insulation and dry lining boards 2mm thick on one side at the moment.

question is , does the garage area containing the boiler have to have certain thickness /fire rated wood to pass building control?

we are looking to put in shelving /put bits and pieces into the small garage area, today hence the questions! (ideally should have phoned building control on friday)

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Fire ratings will not come into this arrangement

However, your partition wall will be treated as an external wall and require the approriate amount of thermal insulation
