Hi

Just put u-beams across garage to start building 1st floor extension.
Beams are 90mm wide each and will take 2 leaves of 100mm block work with 100mm cavity.
Is it best to centralise each beam under the block or can I put the blocks on so that they are flush at the front face and have 10mm over hang at the back (cavity side)?

Thanks

Centre of wall or centre of blocks?

I would not mess about trying to centre them 5mm in from each face. With the web innermost, set them out so that the face of the beam is the external face of each skin, and this will help with setting out and plumbing the wall.

And don't forget your bolts and tube spacers

And ties on top of the beams to hold any insulation

And cavity tray

What's the difficulty? Pipe spacer if cut correctly will give you beam centreline coincident with the leaf centreline.

I just thought that if the beams were put in the centre of the wall, then there would be 60mm overhang of each leaf

;) :p
