I have a top floor flat, the fusebox is by my (own) front door at the bottom of the stairs.

Please can you let me know what height this should be at under latest building regs. i.e. between 450-1200mm from floor??

Advice gratefully received.

Many thanks.

The only regulations relevant to the height of your CU are the ones that were in place when your CU was installed/when your flat was built.

How old is your flat and when was the CU installed?

CU has just been installed. However I am not really happy about the height as I had requested a lower height. So I want to check/understand what the allowed range was before discussing with my electrician.

Cheers,

Unless your flat is a new build or has been fully refurbished, there are no regs governing the height of the CU

As you are the customer your sparks should have fitted the CU where you wanted it. Part M suggests the CU should be mounted between 450-1200mm but that only applies to new builds. It may apply to a complete re-wire but that's open to interpretation. It would not apply to just a CU change.

Edit. I'm sure RF & Johnd are dictating to a short hand typist?

No, I was in bed after a hard day training.

The price to fit a CU in a different position to the old one would have been slightly higher to allow for crimp-joining the various cables (if existing) and running then to a new position; was there a written order, quote and description of work, I wonder?

Did you indicate the preferred position to the electrician, and was it where the door would bang it? Where was it in relation to the meter and service head?
