I have several downlights in my bathroom all of which currently have 50W GU10 halogens fitted.

3 of them are set in a plinth over a mirror and the other 3 are in a 3 light fitting in the centre of the bathroom.

Can anyone suggest the best low energy bulbs to switch to that will give a similar light?

TIA

Have a look for 5w LED lamps.

Expect to pay around £10 per lamp.

Even 5w lamps are still not as bright as a 50w halogen, but there as close as you're going to get just at the moment.

They are IMO a good replacement for halogen lamps though.

Forgot to say, you will want warm white lamps if you're replacing halogen and you want to keep it looking the same.

you can get 7W LEDs, but be careful, the ones I have seen wont fit a standard fitting, as they are around 75mm long.

Ceiling mounted torches are not a good way to light up rooms.

A good thing to do is to replace them.

A well designed downlighter installation is a great way to light a room. There's no point wasting money on replacing the lighting when there's nothing at all wrong with it.
