Bulge in Ceiling

After a recent leak in my roof one of the ceilings has developed a "bulge"from where the loft insulation got wet and put pressure on it, the area is about 1 metre square, is there any method I can use rather than have the ceiling replaced. The ceiling is made from plasterboard.

If it's only about 1m sq, any chance of cutting out the damaged section between joists?
Then a p/b patch adding and noggins on the 2 sides where there is no joist support.
Perhaps full reskim or even blend in skim?

Maybe more of a Q than a solution. Curious if it's possible.

cut back to the nearest joist, cut it so the old plasterboard is halfway on the joist, you now have halve a joist to fit your new board to, fix it then skim or blend in, and as newb says add noggins if needed
