burnt out connector

I was asleep at the time but my girlfriend told me that the fizzin and crackin started about 1.30 am so they had obviously had a few

I believe they do, but only drift at snails' pace in copper.

Much faster in an electron microscope or an old TV.

Yeah ok ok, I'm no expert but I have been doing electrical work since the age of 11.,
 
Ok, still trying to get my head around this burnt out neutral.
So obviously I changed the connector after cutting away the burnt out wires. When checking with a screwdriver tester obviously the live connection lights up and the neutral doesn't, so the live carries the load and the neutral just completes the connection.? but there is no live going back to the main circuit. right?
