Bus driver sacked OMG

Yep, go back to that head-slap moment when chicken biker read this...

What if I chase them as they run off?
This situation is different as you are no longer acting in self-defence and so the same degree of force may not be reasonable. However, you are still allowed to use reasonable force to recover your property and make a citizen's arrest. You should consider your own safety and, for example, whether the police have been called. A rugby tackle or a single blow would probably be reasonable. Acting out of malice and revenge with the intent of inflicting punishment through injury or death would not.

Chasing a fleeing suspect with a weapon and subsequently using it is highly likely to be considered malice, revenge, or retaliation rather than self-defence in legal terms, particularly if the initial threat has passed.

He chased him to get the girls necklace back he only hit him when he came back and was aggressive towards the girl.

Seen plenty of bus drivers going for a pee and leaving the bus unattended
With the engine running and passengers on board?
also if someone wanted to joyride a bus it would be unlikely they would choose one full of passengers.
I think the chances of it happening are greatly enhanced if the keys are in it and the engine is running.

I think his civic actions that day were admirable. It's just a pity he was in charge of a bus at the time.

I wasn't aware a weapon had been used.

It wasn't in the case that this thread is (was) nominally about, but there's generic stuff being discussed as well.

I read he knocked the other guy (who had attacked him) out with one blow of his fist.

More than one person in the bus company looked at the CCTV footage and did not agree that the robber attacked the driver before the driver punched him.

That's interesting. By that point, what would his defence be for punching the thief. Presumably, he would have to rely on the preventing a crime portion of S3. But what crime. Did he believe the woman was being assaulted.
