I have built a wooden garden gate. I have 4 butt hinges can I use them? if so how many gate is 6 foot high. Or do I need to use long gate hinges. Anyone explain one way or other ty.

I've seen garden gates on butts before now but the only reason I know for using strap type of hinges is to prevent damage from the wind i.e. if the wing catches the gate and swings it open quickly then there is a slightly more possibilty of the screws pulling out on butts (asumming they are fitted as butts) than on straps but other than for ease of fitting there's not really a difference.
As to the gate being 6ft then 3 hinges would be fine but if you have 4 then why not just use them all?
