If it is mounted on tiles or wood panelling it may sound loder than it actually is.

Try slipping a thin sheet of rubber or cork, (1/16th"), between the wall and the back of the box. This may reduce the noise even further and not require you to buy a different unit.

Well an update the buzzing has gone and it charges the toothbrush and doesn't get too hot that I have noticed and it looks good too. So much so I am replacing the other one in the bathroom downstairs too.

On another note can you put the shaver sockets anywhere within reason in the bathroom?

Common sense is probably more important that the regulations. The regulations allow you to have an approved shaver socket anywhere other than in zones 0 and 1 (essentially in, or vertically above, a bath or shower tray). I personally wouldn't want any sort of electrical accessory too close to a bath or shower!

I would want it at least 600mm as a minimum from the edge of the bath, but the regulations allow it to be closer.

Thanks for the replies. There is nothing in the box apart from the socket itself which was confusing. The other half was thinking of having the socket on the other side of the shower screen near the door. But then keeps changing her mind so I figured I would ask where it can and can't be placed so I can just say yes or no really... what is best practice for moving the socket? Choc block? New cable? I don't think I can do a new cable as I don't thing I can trace it but the latest place is not far from where it currently is...

Any joint you do needs to remain accessible and suitable for the environment, so as I'm sure you really know deep down you need to either replace or reroute the existing cable.

Yeah I figured as much I am trying to convince her it doesn't need moving and for it to stay there... when the house gets rewired (in a few years) then I will get it moved hopefully if it needs to be moved. Until then I am hoping it can stay where it is with the new socket and everyone is happy...
