I am doing a foundation course in plumbing following the C&G Specifications. Part of this involves using a PC to work in a "Virtual" house on various tasks. The first involves replacing a Stop Cock, and a Float Valve. The task information requests that a "Cold Water System" check is carried out. Although the tasks are completed the programme says that the "Cold Water System" check has not been completed. I noticed that on this Forum, on 16/08/07, someone had the same problem, but it was not resolved. Has anyone now C&G a solution to this aspect of C&G?

Kindest regards to all.

WOW learning plumbing via a PC.

Could the C&G Cert sink any lower???????

Gawd I despair I really do

I dont understand your question mate.

That enables him to gain "virtual experience" and because he will have no real experience he will only be qualified to work with "virtual customers".

There is only one way to learn how to replace a stopcock, that involves lying on your tummy and sometimes getting a little wet.

I want to work for a "virtual" customer. No parking problems, no waiting for supplies and no worry about water, gas or oil leaks. bliss.
And if it goes wrong all I would have to do is reboot PC

Any one know how much to charge the virtual customers. ;)

I am doing the C & G plumbing at a college (not a crash course). there is no virtual part of it! but i have to admit that you do need to be doing some "real world" plumbing jobs outside of college and a lot of learning on your own too if you want to really learn properley.

i mean the central heating module we did didn't tell us anything about the wiring colours of a motorised valve and only briefly told us how they link up. (pretty basic stuff - level 2). i had to learn a lot of this myself as well as fault finding. i had to learn the create a vacuum (bunging) the system myself and also how to change a pump/including wiring.

level 3 is more advanced and a lot harder, and covers boilers and gas safety as well as unvented systems.

anyone who does a C&G plumbing course, don't just expect to turn up and that will be enough! you need to work even harder outside of college too really! :)

Virtual possibly is great for code issues but then your lacking practical experiences.

A perfect example is the United Association apprenticeship training.

10,000 hours (5 years) of on the job training (OJT) and 744 hours of class room studies such as theory, codes, safety, mathematics etc.

Then 5 years working under the auspices of a master before your even eligible to take the 4 part exams over a period of a year.

Virtual could be an asset but without hands on experiences then it is useless if one ever wants to work in the field.

Most mechanics today are replacement specialists removing and replacing and have no idea as to why or how to properly size gas, electric or plumbing systems.

I just had to laugh when i read the first post on this thread.

I recently gave up (because he was slow thick useless and slubornly lacking in basic knowledge and ability) on a 21 year old.

Poor kid he payed £6,000 to some shysters in York who are supposed to have got him to level 2 in plumbing in 6 weeks. Apparently money grabbing bastards with perfectly good IT careers go to the course from all over the country so they can bag up the gold we are collecting in spades every day for siting on are ourses.

He knew nothing and could do nothing. Absolutely useless.

you should have sent him to BG ;) he sounds like management material.

You have to send a virtual bill.

If you are lucky they send back a virtual payment !

Thats where it all falls apart! the virtual payment is just that. You cannot do anything wiuth it and its valueless.

So its back to the real customers with traffic jams, parking tickets, non payers and unmaintained systems which they expect you to fix for £84.
