C rated boiler...

Hello good people.

When is it ok to fit a C rated boiler?

I always fit "A" rated and every now and then "B" rated but never "C" or less...

I vaguely remember some calculation from the classroom but that was months ago...

My (potential) customer recently told me this and to my delight I laughed at first but is there some truth in it?

"The other engineers have told me for cost effective is to supply a C rated boiler which they buy from scotland because scotland laws do not comply with U.K laws.
The reason why is because of the position of the boiler and location of the flue they have no other option is to install C rated boiler, however B or A rated can be done but more expensive due to relocating the bioler"

So many spelling mistakes as i've taken it from his email he sent.

I know that this is complete tosh, but I just need it confirming. 304486

If you can reloate the boiler and fit a condenser, then that's what you're supposed to do. Whether you do or not depends on whether you want the job by the sounds of it.

its a points system if you can get to 1,000 then the can fit a conventional boiler. it is very hard to get a 1,000 points though and it needs a internal wall, vertical flue of some metres + at least 2 more difficulties to acheive

in the last 5 years I have only had 1 boiler that met the criteria.

I have had a look in the Part L pack and as if by magic... there it is!

Told about it once and now i'm confused!

ok, so it's a mid terrace NG: 640 points

Question 10 is really confusing me: is it saying... CAN the boiler be placed in a different room... or is it saying WILL the boiler work in another room? I am reading it as "does the customer want it in the same spot or not"?
So if I take it as "can a condenser be put in elsewhere" then I add 350 points...? No because I would just fit a condenser surely?

Q11: is about the flue length... is that the new boiler in the same location or a new boiler elsewhere?

If the customer doesn't want the new suggested location or the boiler changing does that give me the right to fit a non condenser?

As it stands if I take it as I read it, 640 (type of house/fuel) + 200 (flue) + 100 (for pump) which comes to 940, less than 1000, which means I have to fit a condenser? But If I relocate the new boiler it takes me to 640 + 350 (location change) + 100 (condensate) which is 1090 over the threshold for the new location...

Can someone explain?

I still ahven't been given a password for COMBUSTION CHAMBER. 304486.

I want to got back to school, I am only young...!

In essence it is quite simple; what the customer wants matters less than nothing in the calculation system.
If it costs an extra 2345 quid, tough.
If it CAN be done, it MUST be done according to the points system.
If the customer is a cheapskate and wants to install an illegal boiler, that is his decision, but YOUR responsibility.

yes I understand. It my question was pointless anyway, when I got to the quote, I could have fitted the boiler in 100 different places.

The customer just wants to pay peanuts and I am no monkey.
