Under 16th Ed should hoods have been fitted downstairs. (There are rooms upstairs )

Now on an ECR, would it fail if LED GU10s fitted ?

As fire rated lights are not required if above is the same property, it would be unlikely that fire hoods are required.

Anyway, how are fire hoods fitted in ceilings with rooms above?

I realise floorboards can be lifted but that is not what happens when downlights are fitted.

In the 80's you pushed like a big bag up through the hole I recall

in the 80s I do not recall much talk or mention about fire rated fittings in domestic situations. There were several fire rated tents that appeared and were not the best. Everyone was installing the super dooper low volt 50w halogens which burn so hot and often transformers with thermal cutouts going off because being to close to the fittings or covered in insulation. Who would ever have thought LED lighting would have got so good.

I "liked" this from the NAPIT link -
