I've had an extension reel for years and it has this plastic thing on it:

I've just bought a new reel and it has one too !!!

What's it for? :?

Cheers.

mines got the same, im sure it serves a practical purpose of some kind.. maybe one that I have just not thought of lol.

So no idea what its for.

Put in the right position it's supposed to stop the cable coming off the reel, but I've never known it to work very effectively. but like all such things, once a manufacturer has started something they never know when to stop

It's a hand brake. Wind in, twist towards the spokes and the spokes stop it un reeling.

Ah ha!

Thank you for that. I tried it and it works!!,

Can't see the point though. :?

Have you never experienced the wheel spin? The same beast that means you have to uncoil the whole damned lot when you only needed 5m and have 15m of a 25m roll twisted round itself, the frame and anything on the floor?

It is very useful, more so on frictionless reel.

Oh. I thought that you were supposed to un-reel all of it every time?

To stop heat build-up or something.

Hmmm.
