Hi
My first post
If it was calculated that you need a 4mm cable to supply an outbuilding could you double up 2.5mm ?

Thanks

There was a thread on this not long ago, I think the consensus was no due to the possibility of one core becoming loose or damaged and overloading the other plus 2 lots of swa being difficult to work with.

You could there is nothing within the requirements that say you cannot. But why not use 4.0mm cable?
Out of interest, what are your calculation based on?
Have you taken the load and voltage drop calculation in to consideration?

It was a talking point.A relative thinking he could save money running 2x2.5mm in conduit as opposed to 4mm swa.
Thanks for the replies

Sounds pretty much like a ring circuit to me..... so in principle is perfectly acceptable

Next time you are talking points with him tell him that if he wants to use 2 cables in parallel instead of 1 x 4mm² SWA his thinking should be 2 x 2.5mm² SWA.
