What size and type of cable is needed for garage.Garage is about 20 meters from consumer unit.Half the cable is going to be buried under ground and the rest is under cellar.Trench is already dug.In garage i need max 4 sockets and 2 strip lights.Sparks sugested 4mm cable should be fine.I am only lying cable so he can make connections when garage is ready.By the way trench is 2 feet deep.Any precations laying cable.

Trench depth should be 450mm.
What's your maximum load?
Would a 20A radial & 6A lighting circuit be enough?
In which case, I'd use 6mm² to lower volt drop, on a 32A breaker.
Put the circuit on the incomer side & fit a metalclad CU with RCD protection in the garage.
This is notifiable work, so contact your BCO before commencement.

As securesparks says think about possible expansion of the garage circuits in the future and go for 6 or 10mm swa for the submain.
All so if your electrician is going to TT the garage (not export pme) & you do use a metalclad cu he will need to have rcd protection on the submain at the supply end.
Lay the cable on a bed of sand in the trench and dont forget to use marker tape (warning electrical cable) above the cable.

Do you mean any plastic pipe can be laid but why laid next to cable .why not cable in the pipe itself.Lectrician said:Warning tape above the cable - not directly on it
