We have just had a new central heating system installed . The previous system had 1mm twin and earth connecting the Thermastat to the boiler, however, on the new system , what looks like 3amp flex has been used to connect the Thermastat ( situated in Hallway) to the boiler ( situated in bathroom). The boiler is connected to the supply via a 3amp fused switch unit. Has the correct type of cable been used?

flex shouldn't be used for fixed wiring unless its exposed for its whole run

Cable usually used is T & E or Three core & E depending upon whether the stat has a N connection or not.

Surely 3 amp flex run off a 3 amp fuse, clipped to the wall surface is safe to use?

yeah its safe but apparently the wiring regs disallow it unless its its exposed for its whole run (which is unlikly to be the case)

safe does not imply complient with wiring regs
compliant with wiring regs does not imply safe
