To save on having to do two chases is it acceptable to run a single 1.5mm2 for a light next to a 2.5mm2 ring main cable? I understand the basic principles of derating but the cables will only be next to each other on a straight run of around 2.2m.

I've had a look via the search facility but can only find references to mains cables and non mains cables.

Thanks for any replies.

Hmm.

New switch drops, new sockets, new cooker circuit, new radiators, plastering...

Sounds like a major refurb to me - you really ought to get a copy of the wiring regs, a decent guide to them, the On-Site Guide and the Electrician's Guide to the Building Regulations...

Thanks for that. If I'm reading it correctly as the lighting circuit will only be used for a 20w cfl uplight then it wont be a problem as it will be less then 30% of its rating.

No problem at all in that case, and no need to derate the other cable for grouping.
