Hi.
Could anyone tell me please, I am installing a swimming pool heater approx 70 metres away from the electrical supply.
It requires a 35 amp fuse and pulls 26 amps when running.
What size cable do I need ?

um 35A isn't a standard size are you sure you are in the uk a 32A breaker would be the norm for an appliance drawing that

because of the long distance for volt drop reasons you will need to use 10mm

Thanks for the swift reply Pugwash.

Yes the manufacturers spec states that it needs a 35 amp fuse, the heater is made in Essex. It soft starts at 32 amps.

10mm SWA will do, but it's near the limit for volt-drop - 16mm would be better.

Does the manufacturer say what type of breaker you should use? If it has a startup surge I'm wondering if a Type C would be a Good Idea™.

earth loop impendence issues are hell on a C32

i wouldn't use one unless i absoloutely had to

Thanks for the replies, all issues delt with now.

Cheers - Tony
