Can anyone tell me if this is usual finishing to Fascia/soffit/guttering replacement

Send this "cowboy" and email outlining all the elements you are not happy with "bullet points".

Advise all moneys will be with held until the work is completed to a proffessional and acceptable standard.

You have to give him one opportunity to rectify his work within a reasonable amount of time 3-7 days, if he fails you can take him to court to recover all expenses and employ someone else.

Maybe try a local double glazing shop they may be able to recommend Trustworthy tradespeople.

Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for your input and advice so far!
The tradesman has offered to correct and asked for a list of my concerns. Having checked the original quote and agreement I have sent:

1. Guttering fall/drop is incorrect and water is not draining correctly.
2. Downpipes have not been fitted with an end elbow
3. Rotten fascia boards appear to have been capped rather than removed and replaced.
4. Soffit boards have been cut unevenly and do not meet the fascia groovecorrectly, leaving exposed timber in places.
5. Sections of soffit and fascia are not level.
6. A drip edge has not been installed.
7. Some cuts and joints are uneven and require replacement.

In order to rectify the above, I believe the affected sections of fascia, soffit and guttering will likely need to be removed and reinstalled correctly rather than patched or adjusted.

Can anyone here see any issues which u have missed?

Downpipes have not been fitted with an end elbow

Sorry I didn't realise the old rotten fascia board had been capped over, that is never a good idea, unless the board is in perfect condition. 3

The 'elbow' is called a shoe. 2

Item you missed, is the U channel, has not been fitted along the wall, into which the soffit wall end slots, to give it support. At the moment it looks as if the soffit, has just been wedged roughly in place, hence why it's all over the place. Likely, when the wind blows, the lot will blow down.

Debatable, but soffit vents might be needed, to provide some airflow. These things - https://www.bpdstore.co.uk/glidevale-sv200-soffit-ventilator-white/p/152

Here’s some before pictures for any debate ongoing about rotten boards and soffit vents

Tradesman has now replied and offered a date to come and “sort and rectify” the works.

Consumer act says I must give him the opportunity to, but really lost confidence in his abilities.

How can I ensure that the work is done properly and any covered rotten wood is discoverable.

I would likewise have little confidence in his ability, having seen your photos. I am rather surprised you have been able to contact him, and have him agree to return at all. Usually these people just take the money and run. I must admit, I hadn't realised originally, he had done the edge of the roof too, up to the apex.

It's a matter of what was originally agreed, the specification, and scale of the work. What was discussed and agreed about what was to be done, before you accepted their quotation? Have you anything in writing?

None of that detracts from the shockingly poor quality, and finish of the work which they have done. It also would not have taken much more effort to get it right, by doing the workmanlike job of removing all of the timber, as it should have been. You paid a top quality price for the work, and ended up with a completely unacceptable result, not worthy of a tradesman who knew what he was doing.
