can i build a garage/ brick "shed" in my back yard

Hi all,
I have searched this forum and can't find anything similar. I have 3metres length and 2.6metres width of space in my back yard, (currently a slightly smaller shed is there) and was wondering if I could build a brick "shed" to be used for storage, the previos owners have knocked the brick wall down to utilise the space as a car port, so this would need re-building. To the left of the proposed build is the neighbours brick yard wall.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i know nothing about planning permission or such things.

Its pretty clear what you can and cannot do without having to apply for Planning Permission. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/outbuildings/ worth checking with your planning department just to make sure you have not had any of your Permitted Development rights removed as can happen.
