I live in a 1900's terraced house with a back yard. In the corner of yard where the external wall to the back lane and the boundary wall to the neighbouring property meet there is a brick coal shed. This is mirrored in the neighbours back yard. Across both is a single concrete slab roof.

I'm thinking of removing the coal shed in my yard and understand that to do this I'll have to take a Stihl saw to the concrete roof in order to cut it into two, then continue with demolishing the structure bit by bit.

I be discussed this with my neighbour who has no problems with what I propose. The only concern he has is that he believes the concrete roof contains asbestos as he and his family have lived in their property since they where built.

Due to Corona virus I'm finding it difficult to contact someone from the local authority regards this matter.

Has anyone else came across a similar situation, I thought it would be just concrete, now it looks as though it could be an expensive project.

Cheers

Pictures?
Why would a concrete roof contain asbestos ? Especially as an outside shed is minimal risk of fire?
Asbestos sheet was used but it was thin and often corrugated (not always) they used metal bolts to fix panels together.
If it's asbestos cement, it is relatively benign but I wouldn't cut it

When I disposed of asbestos guttering and pipes, the council tip allowed me to book an appointment.
I had to take I.d. And double wrap in strong polythene with gaffer tape. Think "the sopranos" and body disposal. I took it to the dump at the allocated time and a guy dressed like Darth Vader came out.

If the roof is corrugated sheets then its likely to be asbestos cement, and should not be cut but removed in whole pieces - it's relatively safe and easy to do DIY, but disposal may need specialists if your council wont accept it at the tip

If it's a thick concrete slab, then it will be just concrete.

Thanks for the speedy replies.

The concrete roof is a slab. It's about 3/4 inches thick spanning both coal sheds.

Oh and yes I should have posted pictures but at the moment I'm at work. I'll add them later, cheers
