Can I change a 13 amp plug for a 10 amp plug?

Your table lamp only needs a 3 amp fuse anyway so fit one of those if you can.

So is the 10 amp plug I bought OK?
Yes it is.....in the U.K it's the fuse that's fitted inside the plug that's important for maximum protection......with yours it seems that 10 A is the maximum so it wouldn't be any good fitted to a 3kW electric fire, for example.

Relax.I've moved from UK to Brazil with a table lamp.
The UK plug says 13 amps, and I've bought a Brazilian plug I want to wire onto the end.
It's 10 amps because the guy in the shop said it should be fine for a lamp.
Will this be OK? the other option was a 20 amp plug
It is only in the UK (or some other countries afflicted with standards derived from BS1363) where fuses are required in plugs for socket-outlets.
(This is because UK "Ring" circuits can provide 32 Amps while the sockets concerned are rated at only 13 Amps.)
In the rest of the world the protection of all the wiring concerned is provided by the Circuit Breaker/Fuse at the CU/Panel.
