Can i copy programs off my old damaged HD?

thanks for your help so far..

I tried copying, rather than dragging, both the complete old program files folder and the specific folder for the program i want to transfer.

When i try to run the program it says

ERROR THE OPERATING SYSTEM IS NOT PRESENTLY CONFIGURED TO RUN THIS APPLICATION.

Any ideas?

I'm beginning to get the impression that the application wasn't working when you boot from the new drive and run it off the old drive. Am I right?

If so, you have to install the application for it to work under Windows. This is because (a) essential DLL files are put in the right place (as someone has already pointed out), and (b) there are necessary changes to the Windows Registry for the application to work.

What was actually wrong with the old drive?
