hi. I'm after a little advice reference power in a garage, i would like to know if its possible to power lights and sockets of the same breaker.
thanks team :)

Yes, it's possible.

However, you'll need to install a fused connection unit off the ring final or radial circuit to provide overload protection for the lighting.

hi gary, thanks for the reply, i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to house electrics, are you saying to power the lights via an FCU from the final socket in the ring and not from the MCB feeding the sockets.

No, don't directly feed the lights from the same MCB.
If you're installing a ring final for the sockets then it'll probably be a B32 MCB, if it's a radial circuit then a B20 MCB.

Lighting is generally wired in 1.5 or 1.0mm T&E. You should install a FCU, switched if you want it to double as a light switch from any point on the ring final or radial circuit.
All wiring to the sockets and the feed side of the (switched) FCU should be in 2.5mm T&E, load side in 1.5mm T&E (or 1.0mm).

hi, if you are installing a new supply from consumer unit to garage then use a 32A mcb in con.unit;
run 4mm2 tw/e to garage to a 'garage unit',
which is a mini con.unit with rcd as main switch and a 6A mcb for lights + a 16 or 20 A mcb for sockets wired as a radial in 2.5mm2, much better than using a FCU as it allows you to turn off power and still have lights when modifying circuit for power say.
Very inexpensive, & IMHO the 'professional way to do it!
As will be new circuit from con.unit, usual part-p stuff applies,
regards
