Can i put a conservatory over a gas line?

Hi

I want to put a conservatory on the back of the house but we have a domestic gas line which runs across the back of the house about 4' from the building line.
I was thinking about using a steel base so the line wont be disturbed or have the pressure on it of the usual concrete base or footings etc?

Any ideas?
