Hi,

Hope someone can help.

I have an internal load bearing wall between my kitchen and my dining room. similar to this.

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b7/c9/9b/b7c99bf61cd4fcb799348b7e217b3de4.jpg

There is an RSJ in place already and the brickwork protrudes from each end like in the photo. There is currently a door way in the way also.

I am trying to work out what i need to do to proceede.

  • As there is an RSJ in place is it ok to take out this wall?
  • Do i need a structural engineer as they just seem to calc the beam size and I already have one.
  • Do i need a bigger beam if taking out the wall/
  • do i need to get building control to inspect it before/after as if the RSJ is taking the load is it no longer load bearing?
  • Once the wall is out it will need fireproof cladding and so do i still need building regs for that?

Any help would be great here as im not really sure what to do next? I think i can just knock the wall out as the RSJ is taking the weight, although there is some hallow timber stud work behind but i cant see that doing much with the RSJ in place...

I dont understand. The image does not show a wall, but just an opening with what could be a beam above.

I can't understand what you are referring to.
