Hi.
Is it safe to remove these archway corners to make it fully square? I'm 99% sure it is but i just wanted to make that 1% extra sure lol

They sound more hollow than the walls.

Also, what is the best way to do it? Is it just hammer/chisel it out or is there a way to unscrew it etc.
Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Ps please ignore the dodgy paintwork! We moved in last year and had to slap a quick paint on because the paint under it was BRIGHT pink lol We're just getting around to doing it now.

They are probably plaster covered mesh, tapping and comparing the sound to adjoining brick/block work is usually a good clue

Removing the curve is likely straightforward; more challenging may be making what’s left look tidy. How are your plastering skills?

I did one a few years ago which included wee low walls on each side sort of key hole style.

The problem was that the beam that had been installed was rather sketchy. I wound up framing the opening with 2x6 wedged down onto the wall below the floor which beeefed the beam up and made the tidying up a whole lot easier.
