Can I skim over woodchip?

It's a bugger to get off. I was wondering whether it is doable / acceptable to skim over, like you'd do with artex? Presumably with a pva coat first?

You could, but it's strongly not advised.

You don't know how well the paper is bonded to the wall.
It's a bugger to get off but only because the paint that's usually been applied over it over a very long period

A while ago, there was a device that punctured the woodchip paper and allowed the water you are using to remove the paper to get into the paper.

This "appears" to be an equivalent modern device, and fairly cheap??
