Hi,

I have an existing external wall light connected to a switch inside the house that runs off the existing downstairs lighting circuit MCB.

Can I connect to this wall light, using an appropriate armoured cable to run down the garden, to install a couple of garden pillar lamps that will work off the same switch.

Is there any additional benefit in adding a weatherproof fused spur unit to run off the external wall light.

...or should I attach to some sort of RCD !

Thanks for the advice

any electrical appliance that is outside has to be protected via an rcd, so unfortunately the answer is no you can not do that.

You could run it off a plug via a spur PROVIDED it is protected by an rcd or you can plug it in with an rcd plug
