I sorted all wiring out for 3 security lights to work off one switch in kitchen (with the exception of tapping into the lighting circuit) ie all cables chased through o/s walls ready. I then purchased the lights (1 x 500W and 2 x 150W) only to find they are to run off the ring main using switched spurs!

I am sure in my previous house the security light was connected to the lighting curcuit!

Is there a way around this without replacing all I have done and repeating with power cable and replacing existing light switch with fused spur?

Your advise would be appreciated, Thanks

yes you can run it off the lighting circuit, it may be easier to take the cables you have to the lighting cisuit and connect it via a j.b there.

There is only one concern, that of how much load you will putting on to your existing lighting circuit.

Thanks Breezer. Can I ask you how I can measure whether I am overloading the lighting circuit or not? :)
