.....replace the tails on an installation and leave it with a N-E fault, No RCD for sockets, 230V fan in zone 1, no supp bonding.....etc?

Personally I don't think so, but thaen again I tend to over do it a little!

What are your thoughts.

No, as when you come to issue the EIC it will fail on the points you listed, and therefore it is an unsafe installation which you have connected.

Cheers RF, thought so.

What it is, I did a PIR on this house, failed it on the above with code 2's, and undersized tails code 1. The estate/letting agency have told the owner that they only need to get the code 1's sorted to let it out..

Will now phone them with the bad news, that is if they can be bothered to get up from watching Big Bro'

I do a lot of maintenance work and our key words are "Don't leave it any more dangerous than you found it".

Just phoned them.

Basically, bla, bla, bla, estate agents thick, bla, bla bla...

THEM...Can you do it tomorrow or Friday??

ME.......Yeh right.. Might be able to do it on Monday if I shift some work!

THEM...Can I let you know tomorrow

What is it with people, do they think they are your only customer??

Yeah. I was on call the other day. Drove all the way from Stockport to Stafford for an emergency shout. When I got there they were out! Waited 30 minutes. Left a card, drove all the way back to Stockport. When I got through the door my mobile started ringing: "Mr & Mrs X at such an address want to know why you didn't wait for them to get home..."

My response? "If Mr & Mrs X had a genuine emergency, they would arrange for someone to be in when a guy on standby has driven 50 odd miles to attend to their "emergency", wouldn't they?"

"And no, I'm not going back........."

GRRRRRRRR!!!

Another one the other day,

A message, can you come and have a look at my electrics, we have a burning smell. Number is...........

Ring, and ring, and ring.... No reply!

Now I know where this woman works so I get my missus to go and see them, get mobile number, address. Got them still not answering the phone so I go there on the way home (only 5 mins out of my way). Guess what, no one in!

So I get another phone call today, speak to her husband - hot fuse - wylex standard (white) - with washing machine & tumble dryer on. I arrange to go there.

When I get there I have a look for loose terminations in the CU, find the live (load side) terminal of one of the circuits is loose in the board, so tell them the bad news, you need a new CU, how much? £250 - £300, GULP

So I guess that I'm not going to get that one!! charged them £20 for looking - took all of 15mins including a quick Zs on the circuit in question!
