Can Toughened Shower doors be drilled - Urgent !!

My shower door has fallen off.

It has come out of its hinged part, where it is a tight push fit with a plastic sleeve into the hinge bit.

To stop this happening again can I drill small holes of 6mm with a diamond core dril,l about 10mm from the edge of the glass.

Or will it pop into tiny bits of glass.

so it will like when I was carrying one carefully to the skip . BANG and the dirt( and the whole sodding door ) was gone
