Can wall units be mounted onto a stud wall?

Hello all

We're having an extension built onto our kitchen. Now, the sides of the extension (e) are approx 250mm narrower on each side than the original building (k). When finished, the kitchen will be an L-shape, with the longest wall being the original kitchen wall joining to the new extension side wall, with a run of wall units (¦).

My question is this:
Where the new meets the old, there will be a 1.2m x 25cm void where we want some of the wall units to go (k). If our builder erects a stud wall to line up with the extension wall, will it be strong enough to take two wall units laden with shopping? If this isn't possible, can you suggest a way around this, please?

¦ = run of wall units
e = new extension side wall
k = original kitchen side wall

Hope I've made myself clear!

ask your builder to make the studwork suitable for you to fix your cupboards to, then to make life even easer, ask him o mark where studs are

or if you have room attach 18mm ply to the stud work with screws then plasterboard over the ply. That way you can fix anywhere not just for the wall units.

My mother has kitchen cupboards secured to a timber framed partition wall. As a good measure, dad secured a timber batten (approx 40x18mm) to run horizontal along the wall to act as an additional support for the cupboards, which, as you know get very, very heavy with tinned groceries.
Also, you could use screws to secure the timber as well. Hope this helps. :)
