Can You Believe It?

To be perfectly honest I would have taken a pic, recorded the conversation again, and reported them. You have to make a stand some times, no matter the hassle it might bring upon you...

Just my 2p

2 months ago, i went to a property in Somerset to fit a Pre-Payment meter. Woman answered the door and instantly i thought something was wrong, did not understand what i was there for, slurred speech, glazed eye's. finally got through to her what i needed to do and she just pointed to the meter behind the door and staggered upstairs. Was fitting the meter and i noticed that the living room door on my right had a length of 2"x2" propped under the door handle. As i was finishing i heard crying from the living room and then a childs voice calling for Mum. I opened the door and found a boy about 4 years old in a soiled nappy. I started talking to him and the mother staggered back down stairs but i noticed blood on her arm and the needle tracks. She started screaming and shouting at me. I walked outside and dialed 999. Police arrived in about 3 minutes, i gave a statement and left.

About 3 hours later, i get a phone call from the Police asking me to return to the local Police station as they needed to talk to me further. On my return i was arrested for theft. The woman claimed that i had stole £40.00 of her dole money from the living room. I was formally arrested, finger printed and my DNA taken and then interviewed and i was suspended from work for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks i had to return to the station where all charges were dropped because of lack of evidence (they found more holes in her story than a Tetly tea bag).

Would i get involved again, IN A HEART BEAT.

Pity there are no security headed screws for domestic electrical fittings.

There are, can rememeber doing the install on a care home for troubled teenagers, the spec called for security screws and our suppiers managed to get us some M3.5 countersunk 'snake eye' screws, the issue was that the bit required to put them in had two narrow 'prongs' and was quite brittle, if the thread of the screw started to bind at all it would sheer the security bit. Would have been better if we'd had triangle or torx /security torx bits

...... Would i get involved again, IN A HEART BEAT.

So you would do that again wontdothatagain .

Have to say she obviously was trying to get "her own back on you", the police have to obviously follow up any accusations like this I can't however understand why they can't destroy the DNA record in this instance.

Arrests will not show on a CRB check as no conviction was made and therefore no criminal record.

Do you realise what you may be doing by reporting that? you could end up getting the child removed from its parents indefinitely whilst an investigation is being carried out. Once a child is removed from a home, it is difficult for them to be returned without lengthy family court cases which are usually one sided and hard to win. All sorts of claims can be made against parents in these situations without little evidence to back it up - social services dont need any as they have the benefit of the doubt in all cases.

Maybe this parent was just so ignorant to the dangers of electricity that they thought it would be safer that way - i know of health and safety reps who have to ask if an extension lead that has been ran over by a forklift truck is still safe to use because they cant see any copper exposed despite the fact that the thing is crushed and snapped. The shrug of shoulders may have been because they didnt know what else to say after realising that they could have seriously injured or killed there child.

However, im not condoning blatant lack of care for a child (like in the drugs and soiled nappy post) - i wasnt there and dont know the attitude of the person in question. Only you know what they are like. Maybe he/she/they are a bunch of careless not fit to be parents. I would always think seriously/twice about getting the SS involved with a family if i couldnt be 100% sure there was any lack of care or abuse going on.

Yes i agree, those 'safety' plug covers kind of defeat the built in safety device, well they make it easier for kids to defeat the safety flaps. The safest way to go is to leave plugs as standard and get RCD protection!
