Hi, I'm currently installing some pipes in my house using solder ring joints and a few compression joints where I don't want to put the blowtorch

However, I am putting in a few draincocks which are made of brass...so, can I connect a draincock to a copper pipe using solder ring joint, or should I use a compression joint?

Thanks!

Yes, but take the guts out while soldering.

Yes,if there the normal type, with the tail, that fits into 15mm fittings.take the inside out before soldering or washer will melt and leak

Putting them in compression fittings is actually quite useful. If you undo the fitting you can put a hose onto the thread, giving a great flush point and no dribbles. It's what I do under boilers, outside, etc.
