It's unusual to have a mass shooting in Canada. Trudeau set up a buy-back scheme to take military-style weapons out of private hands after a previous event, but the amnesty to hand them in keeps being extended.

It's even more unusual to have a mass shooting carried out by a female.

The original RCMP warning described the killer as a female in a dress. That was half true.

The BBC referred to the killer as a "person" but the police spokesman called them a "girl."

Looks like Canada still has difficulty accepting reality.

Plenty of infamous female killers in UK and Canadian history.
The most recent female killer in Canada, before this incident, was in 2024.

I can imagine the difficulties she experienced from all corners of society.
When you are cast out as an unacceptable, it's not surpising if you behave like an outcast.

Before anyone makes silly allegations, I, nor anyone, is excusing or supporting murder. Similarly, I am not supporting ostracising anyone born slightly different to the usual understanding of sex and gender.
Two wrongs don't make a right, even if the first wrong was 6 years of unrelenting prejudice.

I think the relevance here is the availability of guns and licence procedures...

This family in Canada had weapons removed because of police concerns, and yet they were returned after an appeal...

I'm proud of the UK stance on weapons, and the figures speak for themselves as to why I feel safer in this country than many other comparable ones...

No doubt some will say that knives are a problem in the UK, and as everywhere else they indeed are...

But it's far easier to commit mass murder with a gun!
