Cannot remove push-fit plug! Help Please!

Got a new shower to fit, but cannot for the life of me remove the plug from the water inlet! Any suggestions? Please?

press the collar no 1 in second pic with an adjustable wrench set on the pipe size

A great tip, but annoyingly I need the top input which is masked by the transparent cover, so barely any room to move or apply pressure.

Other suggestions?

What is stoping you from removing the cover?

A fear of not being able to put it back together again as it's incorporated into the rest of the unit

I can see one screw that it looks like fixes the bottom of the cover is there one at the top also?
If you cant remove the cover then you maybe need an expert to do it for you !!!

Thanks kevplumb, that gave me the inspiration to use pliers across both sides of the collar to apply even pressure rather than my weak bony fingers.

Now to the hard bit...
