i have an old iron gas pipe running to the hob which had an old gas oven , which has been removed now, the connection has been capped of below the concrete level.

can this just be screeded over now or does it require some protection ?

Is it still connected to the gas suppy? If not then screed over it by all means. If it is still connected then you should protect it though the chances are that is isn't protected anywhere else if it is old. Paint it over with some bituminious paint and cover it. Can't go wrong then.

Screeding over a non-soldered connection? I would recommend disconnecting the pipe before it disappears under the cement.

Can go wrong though!

If its a compression fitting then you cannot cover it permanently up as it has to be inspectable.

If a soldered fitting then you can protect it with a petroleum jelly impregnated tape made for the purpose and then cover.

in real world Iron was never protected underfloor so iron cap/plug and just cement over it

Equally I would say that if there is a screwed iron fitting then all joints should be inspectable.

If its to be burried then it needs to be wrapped with the tape ( as defined above ).

Its now incorrect to say its should be Denso tape. Do that and you could fail your gas assessments! Things move on.

weve been instructed to put iron in on new builds recently as the copper decided to walk off the job, we have had instructions just to put in the concrete and cover with polythene, and cement over.

Would you say that was legal, eaton, keeping in mind it's your ticket at stake.
