HI,
situation:
Purpose build Flat, 2nd floor with concrete flooring.
Created a home cinema with 4 front speaker and 2 back.
Flat is fully carpeted with good quality carpet underlay

Now, I am contemplating replacing carpets with 14mm - 20mm think engineered flooring.

My question.
Should I keep carpet underlay as an extra sound insulator before adding flooring underlay such as Novostrat Sonic Gold 5mm - Acoustic then 20mm of flooring??? ANY IDEAS?

I am totally paranoid of my neighbors complaining about the noise once carpets are ditched + I have kids running around.

you have checked your lease carefully????

most appartments outlaw any type of hardflooring because of noise transmission

Lymmranger is right, you must check your lease!

Regards your question, you CANNOT keep the carpet underlay, your flooring will fail, you'll need a single layer, accoustic underlay as recommended by the manufacturer of the engineered flooring (which in my experience, purpose built or not) will mean that your neighbours will be able to hear you walking around your apartment more clearly than if the area was carpeted.
