With "Siemens" and "30A" on the front, feeding rubber-insulated, fabric-covered tails of about 0.007in².

That's YEDL for you!

Certainly is. (Well CE Electric UK these days)

Not many like that round your way then?

There are a few, but not many.

I cover Macclesfield & High Peak, Staffordshire, Cheshire & South & West Yorks.

Staffs has the highest incidence of CI cutouts, mostly on TT supplies...

This next one is as I found it...

This one is in my house in Hull - also YEDL :-

Securespark, are all Cast Iron Cutouts on TT supplies ? I guessed by looking at the earthing arrangement on mine, it was a TN-C. ? I can't see an earth rod anywhere on my property & all the Bonding Earths go straight back to the Consumer Unit Earth Bar.

YEDL have this on their job list for changing out FOC, although I ain't gonna hold my breath coz of all the flood work they have had to do just lately. Apparently the backlog is horrendous.

TNS or TNCS ?

TNS or TNCS ?

Hmmm, just looked at the plans for the tnc, tns & tncs arrangements. I suppose without being able to see into the Cut-Out itself, it's pretty hard to tell ? Do the Electricity Companies do the Neutral~Earth connections within the Cut-Out usually ?

No. Not all CI cutouts are on TT by any means, but what I was saying was the vast majority of SUBTERRANEAN TT supplies in Staffs I find are Cast Iron.

Yours looks like TN-S which is the earth connection coming off the sheath (or the CI casing in your case).

TN-C-S is usually done within the cut-out, but then some TN-S supplies are done that way too. The only way to tell them apart is the thickness of the cable.

TN-S with earth connected within cutout - modern pvc cable:

TN-C-S:

You can see the TN-S here is fed with split-con cable - 3 conductors, whereas the TN-C-S supply cable is straight concentric - effectively phase & a combined PEN conductor.

Those pictures look familiar

Here is another slightly different naked TN-S for you

Virtually all the CI cutouts in my area are ISCO, with the odd seimens and lucy oxford dotted about.

Like this (But not normally with a BS951 clamp on them)

And a TN-S in my house ;-)

Yes, yes - I still have not got around to changing the CU and tails.......but have to move the CU for building works soon anyway!

Those pictures look familiar

Yes indeed! Eternal thanks for those. You won't believe how many times I have presented those as part of my powerpoint presentation to various electricians within our group.

And the first time I did the presentation, my area manager was there...

"I sincerely hope you did not open those cut-outs!"
