CCTV BNC Cable tester

Hi Guys, I have a PTZ camera that stopped working after 8-10 years, so I thought I would just replace it.
I have fitted the new camera but there is no picture, what tester can I get to test the coax cable?

In the first instance You could just use a multi meter to see if there's continuity between the outer core and central "stinger" by putting the leads on one end and shorting the other end out

You can also short out the plug at one end and go to the other end and see if it too is now shorted with your meter (assuming you have one).

Even a torch battery and a bulb (them old fashioned things) should work too.

Is the new camera the correct format ? ….what did you have connected to what ? And what have you replaced it with ?

I have ordered the lab gear test from the above link and I also have a Fluke T6-600 tester.

Ok …so it’s 2mp multi format ( some multi format cameras have a joystick on the bnc lead …eg push up for 5 secs for TVI …push down for CVI …Some have a cap with two dill switches for the format ) …..what dvr is it connected to ?

Jesus …how old is that ? You’re going to have to set the dome to CVBS …and I think that’s where your problem is …is probably a on screen menu on the dome which you can’t get to as your dvr doesn’t support it …

Personally I fit hikvision other manufacturers available…..again it depends on what other cameras you have connected to it …

Ok, I will look into a new Hikvision, I do have another PTZ camera at the rear of the property.

Thanks for all of your help, I will test the wiring this weekend and if everything is ok then iI will order a new Dvr.

Are Hikvision ok to work on anolog cameras?

My two are fine but they are 10 years old.

So, I have carried out a test and have continuity in the coaxial cable. So it looks like a new dvr is needed.

Any pointers to a dvr with will work with analog 4 or 8 cameras, I have 2 PTZ cameras fitting to my old Samsung.
